According to the “Godfather of Gravel,” Ted King,
Now in its third year, the race is not just a race - it’s quickly becoming Montana’s premier gravel event.
Comprised of a short (~50mi) or long (~90mi) course, TLBR 2023 started as a veritable trial by fire - literally.
With four wildfires blazing throughout the Flathead Valley, the AQI (Air Quality Index) was upwards of 150+ 24 hours prior to the start. To put things in perspective, a “great day to ride” is considered around a 20-25 AQI. So for riders traveling to Whitefish, approaching Big Mountain was like pedaling over a hot coal pit!
But in super-stoked gravel spirit, the race was on!
The following photos are some highlights from the shenanigans that ensued, but click-through to the other two galleries to find your favorite shots - then share them with fellow riders and friends on socials.
