EXAMPLE: During the Summer, I work with Whitefish Outfitters as their Glacier National Park Photography Tour Guide.

This is a professional “collaboration” between our two companies. I provide my services through Whitefish Outfitters. Their website acts as a sales funnel to drive bookings for the tours I lead.

 
 

They take the majority of booking fees because they provide me with the permits (which are really hard to get!) to lead tours as their representative in Glacier National Park, tour insurance coverage and really nice GMC Escalades to drive folks around in!

But without my experience and expertise, Whitefish Outfitters would not have a professional capable of providing this service. That’s why this is a classic example of a really symbiotic professional collaboration. 

 
 

ANOTHER EXAMPLE: Whitefish Outfitters has also “partnered” with local luxury lodges like The Lodge At Whitefish Lake and The Pine Lodge - both owned by Averill Hospitality

So the majority of the tour bookings Whitefish Outfitters get come from these two referral sources.

Yes. It is. But the x-factor is “HOW” you establish those referrals in a way that is mutually beneficial so you’re not just asking for a favor and providing nothing in return.

In this case, it’s actually a three-way MULTIMEDIA COLLABORATION. 

I work with (not for) Whitefish Outfitters who has the relationship with Averill Hospitality Group. I actually don’t know what the connection is - or the formal arrangement WFO has with those guys. But I do know that the vast majority of the tours come from those sources.

BOTH get to use my images in their marketing materials. Everybody is happy.

 
 

So what’s the point?

Whitefish Outfitters is not only providing a turn-key service, but also a very unique experience for guests to enjoy that Averill would have to duplicate themselves.

Averill clearly decided it wanted to provide guests with exceptional tours of Glacier National Park, but did not want to jump through all the hoops (or bear the logistics, liability and expense) of running a full in-house tour operation.

Conclusion: Averill simply directs Guests to the Concierge Desk. The CD then refers them to Whitefish Outfitters or literally just sets up the tour then adds it to the room bill. I also assume Averill takes a referral commission from Whitefish Outfitters.

After all, nobody gets a free lunch!
